Olex in Action

Advance Learning Partnership Trust (ALP)

Trust-wide English Progression

The Goal

The ALP Trust Leadership Team, needed a more consistent way to monitor school performance and make their improvement visits more effective. They wanted to move away from fragmented data and instead foster objective, evidence-based dialogue with Headteachers. A major priority was to understand the disparity between reading and writing results across the Trust. This process eventually helped the team uncover and address unconscious bias in marking, with the benefit of creating a reliable benchmark to track pupil progress accurately moving forward.

The Impact with Olex

  • Trust-wide analytics making school improvement visits more targeted and effective
  • Tracking data from the Trust level down to individual pupils ensures complete visibility into writing outcomes and necessary improvements
  • Synchronised moderation to remove unconscious bias
  • Bridging the understanding between secondary and primary specialists with objective gap analyses
“Olex Analytics has completely transformed how we oversee English progression across the Trust. For the first time, we have total visibility into learning gaps—not just at a school level, but down to every class, every student, and every single assignment. It has turned
fragmented data into a unified, objective narrative.”

What Did They Do

  • As part of the SATs collaboration in February, they set the same piece of writing under the same conditions and marked it against the teacher assessment framework within Olex.
  • These results showed surprising results and a different skill gap to what the teachers had expected.
  • The teaching strategy was adapted to focus on the areas that actually needed support.

What Next?

  • They will use the benchmark that was created, to monitor performance moving forward.
  • Continued use of OlexAnalytics to track progress at a deeper level.
"As one of the school improvement partners within our trust it gives me an overview of standards across the trust but also what do we need in terms of CPD for staff."
Louise Templeton, Executive Headteacher
