Revolutionising In-Class Feedback

Revolutionising In-Class Feedback

The Goal

LEO Academy Trust wanted to eliminate the lag between student submission and teacher response, ensuring in-the-moment feedback for maximum instructional impact. By automating the initial marking process, the Trust aimed to standardise feedback quality across all nine primary schools, while empowering teachers to move away from heavy marking loads and towards high-value, targeted 1:1 interventions.

The Impact with Olex

  • Shifted the teacher’s role from ‘marker’ to ‘mentor’, allowing for immediate, data-driven support in the classroom
  • Teachers report a reignited passion for teaching English writing due to significantly decreased marking time
  • Pupils now use Olex insights to take ownership of their learning, improving independent editing and presentation
  • Established a Trust-wide feedback standard that ensures every pupil receives consistent, high-quality guidance
“Olex.AI is an engaging tool - for the pupils as much as the teachers. They feel more motivated, they want to do well and constantly improve in their learning.”
Christopher Perrott, Director of English, LEO Academy Trust.

Christopher Perrott on Olex in the classroom

“Olex enables targeted 1:1 interventions and helps high-performing pupils push their limits beyond traditional teacher feedback. Pupils enjoy using Olex, especially for personalised feedback and The Imaginator, while teachers benefit from a more efficient and detailed marking process.”
Christopher Perrott, Director of English, LEO Academy Trust.

How They Did It

  • Pupils independently scan their work into the platform for immediate processing.
  • Olex marks work within minutes, providing 1–3 specific targets for student revision.
  • The “Imaginator” generates visuals from descriptions, prompting students to refine their writing until the image matches their intent.
  • Teachers receive instant whole-class trend reports, replacing the need to mark 30 individual books to identify misconceptions.
  • Marking time is redirected to “live marking” and one-to-one interventions for pupils needing extra help.
  • Successive year groups were added after trials showed identical accuracy to teacher marking alongside higher student engagement.

What's Next?

  • The rollout is expanding to further year groups following significant gains in student attainment and work quality.
  • The tool is being embedded into the school’s “PedTech” strategy to ensure students take full ownership of their progress.
