The Goal
The Kemnal Academies Trust (TKAT) wanted to reduce the lag time between teaching and assessing, to secure rapid improvement, particularly at KS4. Support all teachers, especially ECTs and trainees, to assess large quantities of work quickly, effectively and with specific feedback to deliver a more rigorous teach–assess–feedback–adapt–teach cycle. Plus, reduce marking time, so teachers can focus on planning and adapting high-quality lessons.

The Impact with Olex
- Following a successful Year 10 mock trial, TKAT rapidly embedded Olex.AI across 14 secondary schools in the trust

How They Did It
- Mock assignments are set on Olex
- Teachers upload essays either as a bulk upload or by snapping images
- Feedback and score quickly generated for students on Olex
- Results were initially checked for accuracy, and raw marks were within 1 mark of previous results
- The teacher reads the feedback, deciding what to include so that the student can focus on specific things
- This rapid turnaround allows teachers to change their intervention lessons for the next day
- This also allows for more regular and frequent writing practice and feedback
- Teachers complete the full teach-assess-feedback-reteach loop for one topic before moving on, rather than jumping to the next subject while marking catches up
